camino update 5 (Logroño and Najera)
2 days in one post.
First, Logroño.
It was CRAZY in Logroño!! Here in Spain, they know how to party. Check this out. I am not sure if it was a feast day or not, but this entire week, monday through friday, all day and all night, they are having a festival in honor of St. Barnabas. So, all day and night, everyday, there is so much food and wine all in the streets for cheap cheap cheap! It was AMAZING!! Many of the local residents dress up themselves and their children in medeval clothing. There are men walking around in all out full on knight armor…chainmail and swords and helmets and all!! It was sooooo cool!!
They know how to party! I forgot to take pictures of the fiesta but I did get a nice video of the knights and soldiers marching around, playing drums and shooting into the sky. It was too cool!!
I got to attend Holy Mass again in the co-cathedral they have in the heart of the city. Was beautiful with another golden altar and surroundings. So thankful for the quite devout (though sometimes few) Spanish Catholics who attend Mass daily. The churches here are so big that some are broken into sections with many many altars inside, with one big altar towards the rear for Sunday services.
Today we made it (after another 30km…) to Najera. Here is a much more quiet town with lots more shops that deal with everyday things other than clothing. There are outdoor shops and bookstores and something similar to Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Tons of everyday things. Had a GREAT lunch with all new things. (Irv, I had pimientas today. No idea what the heck it is, but it was GREAT!)
Myself and Sandra took Sergio to the hospital in Logroño yesterday because he was hurting realllly bad from a blister on his foot that got bigger than my nose (and I have a big nose!). The doc told him he should rest for 4 days. We were all upset cause we all love Sergio and didn´t want to lose him. But Sergio decided to just walk very slow instead of not walking at all. So he gets to stay with us! I was hurting today in my entire left leg, so I walked with him slowly the whole way. I learned a lot of new Spanish today and we talked for hours about our favorite movies. All the big movies are from the U.S., so when he mentioned certain American actors, we were able to discuss all their movies. It was too cool!
Feeling much better now. I popped the blister that has been aggrevating me the past days. It hurts sooo bad, but I think it will get better later on tonight (at least I hope so). Praying hard for you guys and your intentions. Will have pics up after this entry! Enjoy!
Blessings,
Lamar
